A Kildare TD has described as "appalling" the way in which the appointment of the former Attorney General to the Court of Appeal was handled.
Máire Whelan formally installed as a judge in the court at a ceremony in Aras an Uachtarán attended by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
She didn't apply for the position; three judges, sitting in other courts, expressed interest in the job.
Kildare North Social Democrat TD is Catherine Murphy.
